Default POWER button on remote control won't put computer to sleep (since upgrading to Win 7)

I have a HTPC running Windows Media Center and it has a Silverstone MFP51 running IMON software. I don't run any other software on this HTPC.

Everything used to work perfectly - when I was running Windows Vista 64bit. I had IMON set up so that I could put the computer to S3 sleep (and wake it up) using the POWER button on the remote control. No problems at all.

However, since I upgraded to Win 7 64bit, it doesn't work properly any more. Pressing the power button on the remote control doesn't put the computer to sleep.

I don't think there is anything wrong with my computer/Windows setup - if I press the power button on the computer case it will go to sleep. If I choose 'sleep' from within Windows, it will go to sleep.

But if I press the power button on the remote control, the computer doesn't go to sleep. The VFD briefly shows "POWER (PC CASE)" like it should, but the computer doesn't go to sleep. All that happens is IMON switches to mouse mode (instead of keyboard mode, which is what I have it set to use), but nothing goes to sleep.

Strangely, the power button on the remote control still wakes up the computer no problem; it just won't put it to sleep.

-----------------------------------------------
UPDATE: problem solved; it turned out to be faulty hardware in the display board; a little re-soldering and all is well now.

Default ... nor wake-up

I share exactly the same problem although in my case it does not wake-up either while the rest of the buttons seem to work well. Also the display seems to be ok.

I connected the power throught the 24 pins connector as suggested by the manual - all other connectors are mounted as well so not sure where I went wrong. I have a an Antec Fusion Black, Veris RM 200 remote, H55M-ED55 mobo, Enermax wireless keyboard, Windows 7 HTPC....

Ps. also the powerbutton on the case isn´t working while the display and USB ports are behaving correctly....

Default Are USB ports remaining powered and what about drivers?

Not sure if this will help but it might be worth unchecking the box in device manager/power management tab for each USB hub (or at least the one connected to frontview) that reads 'Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power'. Also make sure the latest Windows 7 compatible chipset drivers (from the Motherboard manufacturer, not native Win 7 drivers) are installed. Don't rely on native Microsoft drivers unless NOTHING else is available (from either the Motherboard Manufacturer or even the Chipset provider).

Dear All,

First of all, please check what happens when press Power Button on PC Case. This function, “Power Button (PC Case)”, does the same action with Power Button on PC Case if all cables are connected properly. If it doesn’t work properly, please check check all cable connections for iMON HW, especially from Power button on PC case to iMON HW and from iMON HW to main board power pin. And it works according to Power button option in Control Panel>Screen Saver>…>Power Option

Regards,
Johnny Hur

Dear Johnny - I checked the cables- all looks fine to me. I will take of for a couple of hours now and recheck again.... when pressing the button on the case - nothing happens - really nothing. When I press the Power button on the RC however the Display shows Power (PC Case) - still nothing material happens... everything else works great.....

Default Possibly different causes for similar problems

It'll be worth studying the motherboard manual then and just to rule out the case switch as being faulty, plug that switch directly into the appropriate header pins. If this still doesn't do anything - nothing, then it's a faulty case switch or motherboard/something else with the system to blame. If that proves the case switch is working then you need to reconnect the case switch to the Frontview module and the cable from the frontview module to where the case switch wire previously plugged in.

Unlike the first poster in this thread hazelglow, it doesn't appear you've had this all working well at some stage - or have you? If it's a new build then I think your cabling needs double checking. I found my Antec Fusion Remote Max case manual was totally lacking when it came to connecting up this gear - I had to find how to do it properly from an online forum. The case manual pdf still hasn't been changed to help with this (despite my email to them asking specifically for this). The Soundgraph Installation Guide included with iMON Manager (in the same start menu folder) has an excellent picture of how it all should be done on page 10.

Default It Works!

It works!!! I dismanteled the whole front front and even the display case as I could not easily address the power plug. Put the power button cable directly to the mobo and it worked..... then put the power cable back to the display and the disply cable to the mobo and surprisingly the whole machine then also worked including RC.....

So thanks for the advice.... not sure what was the problem as the power is similar connected as it was originally but perhaps the power connector in the display was not completely in order......

Again thanks team!!

ps. also finished my brand new i7 930 - 160gb SSD - 5970 ATI Radeon - 3TB - 6GB - 2x23" Led power client this evening so happy camper again....

Default Computer Will Not Wake Up After Sleep

Hello,

I have a Media Center built with Silverstone LC16, running Vista 32bit.

I configured my universal remote to turn off everything but the pc. The pc is configured with Balance profile in the power management settings.

When the pc goes to sleep it shows the following message in the VFD:

Power management power (PC Case)

Any attempt to bring the pc back to life fails and I need to turn it off (long press on the power button) and then turn it on.

I read in the forum that some had their wiring re-checked. I already went through disassembling and re-assembling the pc to no success.

Any ideas?

Did that include checking the connections like on page 10 of the manual I referred to above? If you have your case button configured to put the PC to sleep and this also fails to wake the PC then the problem isn't with the Soundgraph hardware failing to send the right signal through but with sleep compatibility of your hardware. It can be notoriously tricky to get PCs to go to sleep and wake up when wanted - depending on the hardware/components in the build. Also things like motherboard BIOS revisions, firmware revisions (where applicable) and even drivers installed can have a big effect. If using the case power button also fails to wake the PC and you have it correctly configured to do so then quite a bit of investigation may be required to iron out these powersaving wrinkles and unless you're keen to do some research on the topic and check your firmware/BIOS revisions etc, then taking the PC to a computer shop or knowledgable friend may be the way to go.
