Hello!

I know that having several imon receivers active at the same time is causing crashes and blue screens. Because of the sadly very limited range of imon ir receivers i bought a imon mini receiver to have under my big screen, but i was also going to use the imon inside reciever that i built into my htpc, so that i can use a imonpad either directed against the screen, or against the htpc that has a different location in my room. This created crashes and i had to unplug one of the receivers, and again always walk to the part of the room where there is reception. (kind of against the idea of "remote control").

Now im building a new htpc, with amp, turntable, and most of livingroom technology all built into the chassi of an 50s radio/recordplayer furniture.
In this i want to use Finger VU 436 as interface while im standing by the htpc, actually im gonna build it into the chassi next to a turntable and some mixing desk knobs, so that i can change music and do other things without turning on my big screen.
For using the big screen i will have a i-mon mini reciever by the screen and use a imon pad.

The problem is that i know that Finger VU also has ir reciever, so i might end up waste my money to buy it when suddenly i will have constant crashes.

My questions is:

1. Can i turn of (disable) the reciever in the VU 463 from software, without disabling the VU 463?

2. If not, can i do it from hardware easily (open the finger VU 463 and unplug it, or put something that totaly covers the reciever, like tape and glue?

I know that a later finger VU product is produced without the receiver, but this product is to large for my htpc project both aestethically and functionally.

Lastly i would like to say that i think i-mon pad is a superior remote to any other ive tried, and its just pity that you dont release a bluetooth version, or something with bigger range, of it. Also i think the software (imon and imedian) is superior, but here its really sad that you dont put energy into solving the problems of playing blu ray and of getting internal tv to work, cause u have to have these features to compete with other software, and it would be sad if imon-products would dissapear because u made the wrong analyzes of what has priority.

Kind Regards

Dear orbert,

I know that having several imon receivers active at the same time is causing crashes and blue screens. Because of the sadly very limited range of imon ir receivers i bought a imon mini receiver to have under my big screen, but i was also going to use the imon inside reciever that i built into my htpc, so that i can use a imonpad either directed against the screen, or against the htpc that has a different location in my room. This created crashes and i had to unplug one of the receivers, and again always walk to the part of the room where there is reception. (kind of against the idea of "remote control").Typically, there should be no bluescreen issue though several iMON products are connected at the same time on one system. Old iMON products use WHQL certificated OEM driver and current iMON products use Microsoft native HID drivers. These drivers were tested with HCT (hardware compatibility test) tool and it means there should not be blue screen issue. Please check once more with your running system which has iMON MINI and iMON Inside. When bluescreen occurs, there might be an information which driver file (.sys file) makes problem and error code. These information can help to sort out current problem.

1. Can i turn of (disable) the reciever in the VU 463 from software, without disabling the VU 463?If you connect iMON MINI and FingerVU 436 to one system, you could select IR receive hardware in iMON Manager > Setting > Multiple H/W setting page. However, this selection affect only for some buttons (gray color buttons on iMON PAD remote) which use HID compliant device driver. If you'd like to disable other black colored buttons like numeric ones and Enter, Back or thumb pad which use HID keyboard driver and HID mouse driver, you need disable or uninstall HID keyboard/mouse driver through device manager. You might correctly find FingerVU 436's HID keyboard / HID mouse driver by using hardware ID (HID\VID_15C2&PID_2C80). And disable or uninstall these driver. Then touch screen of FingerVU can be used while, IR is not working.

2. If not, can i do it from hardware easily (open the finger VU 463 and unplug it, or put something that totaly covers the reciever, like tape and glue?By unscrewing 4 bolts, you could open FingerVU 436. IR receiver module is located left upper corner of it, however, it is mounted by soldering, you could not unplug it. You could cover it by taping or glue.

3. I know that a later finger VU product is produced without the receiver, but this product is to large for my htpc project both aestethically and functionally.Yes, FingerVU 895S does not have IR receiver feature. It uses 8.95" screen. And the last FingerVU is not FingerVU 895. Wireless USB model of FingerVU is available soon. You could get more information about this product HERE (http://www.soundgraph.com/fingervu1016sw-feature-en/).

If you are now planning build new htpc, please check our Hummin' 3.03 (http://www.soundgraph.com/hummin303-feature-en/).

Thanks and best regards,

Thanks a lot for your quick and informative answer!

I looked at the wireless one and was enthusiastic at first, but then i found some things that put me off:

1 small detail is that it just that the usb dongle should have been build into the wireless frame, otherwise it looks a bit unfinished.

2 more importantly is that it says it has the wireless range of 10 meters, that being the same specifikation as other soundgraph products, i would guess the wirelessness is very limited, that i have to stand in the right position and the right spot very close to the reciever to able to use it.

3 size and battery lenght might be a problem.
I would love to use this product if it wasnt so big. If it was the size of the smaller finger vu and if it could go into sleep mode when i didnt use it, so that it saved energy (docking it all the time makes it lose the wireless feeling), i would be happy to buy it. But it would also have to function in the way that i dont have to care to point it at the receiver if i want to use it. It would be nice if it could be wireless in the same free way as bluetooth.

Kind regards
