Hi there,

I read on the website that the iMon VFD supports CJK characters but in my setup (the VFD came with my antec fusion casing), it shows ???? when playing chinese titled songs in Vista media center (x64).

Can anyone help me get the chinese characters to display on the VFD please?

Hello,
If you run iMON Manager (iMON.exe) through AppLocale (http://alcahest.club.fr/perso/apploc/applocale.html), it will display CJK correctly ;)
That's what I use, for Japanese on iMON LCD.
See you,

Thanks for the reply. I went through the website for AppLocale and it appears to be used with non-unicode compliant applications and that the text are non-unicode.

In my case, i'm running Vista x64 and all my mp3 tags are encoded in UTF16. Assuming that the iMon app is non-unicode, will it be able to pick up the mp3 tags correctly?

Dear bfg100k,

There's two issues on this topic; One is Unicode and the other is the character set which iMON VFD supports.

1) Unicode
iMEDIAN HD is built in Unicode and can read id3tags in Unicode without problem. However, iMON Manager does not support Unicode yet, there can be a problem with showing the characters encoded in other language code page than OS default one.

We need to update iMON Manager to support Unicode. This feature is missed in our To Do List now and we'll add this to our To Do List.

2) The character set which iMON VFD supports
While iMON LCD OEM or iMON UltraBay can show multi-byte characters such as Korean, Japanese or Chinese, iMON VFD supports only alphabetical and numerical characters, because VFD controller supports only these characters.
Because of this reason, there's no way to show multi-byte characters through iMON VFD even though iMON Manager supports Unicode.

Thanks and best regards,

Ok. I might be mistaken when I used the term VFD when I really mean to say is LCD. As I recall the antec fusion casing I have is less than a year old and belongs to the 2nd generation of the antec fusion casing which comes with the LCD version of iMon rather than VFD. (The display is blue text on light blue background.) As such, my physical display is capable of displaying multi-byte characters right? So right now, I just need to wait for the iMon Manager software to be updated?

Yes, you have the LCD, so can display CJK.
You have 2 options, either you wait for an updated Unicode iMON Manager, or you run iMON Manager through AppLocale ;)
My mp3s with Japanese tag work but I'm using id3v2.4 UTF-8, not UTF-16.. so not sure.

I think I will probably wait for the updated Unicode iMON Manager to be available. Lets hope it won't be too long!
