Replacing internal infrared remote receiver with an external one?

Hi,

I bought an Silverstone GD01MX case for building my HTPC. In this case a Soundgraph VFD is used with its integrated infrared remote receiver.
My HTPC is placed in a position where the signals of my Logitech 885 remote control reach the infrared receiver of the VFD even if I do acrobatic actions with my hands. So it is sometimes very difficult to send clear signals to the VFD infrared receiver.
My question is: Is it possible to replace the internal infrared receiver of the VFD with an external wired one which I could then place somewhere I could reach it better with my remote control? For this I also could deactivate the VFD, because I don't need it. But if I deactivate the VFD can I use the Soundgraph Imon Software further?

Dear Subsonic,

Regret to say, we don’t have any solution for extending IR receiver and we don’t recommend cutting IR receiver. But there was a user request the information about IR receiver. Please check the following thread.

And if you disable iMON device, iMON SW can’t work properly. If you don’t want to use VFD, try to select “Never” for “Run FrontView When iMON Starts” option in iMON Manager>iMON Utilities>FrontView>common tab.

What is if I would use the iMON Mini instead of the VFD? Do you know where I can buy the Mini in Germany or Europe?

I plan more customize this case - interconnect IR-receiver with serial port and Girder. Now I add second IR-receiver, but it isn't good solution.
I need to know, which type of IR-receiver is used ?
SFH-506 ? SFH-5110 ? TSOPxxxx ? Other ?
