The Window in the iMon Manager for the Remote Controller is greyed out. The VFD display always says "Not Defined Command" when a button on the Microsoft remote is pressed and aimed at the VFD. Pressing the reset button does nothing. How do I get my remote controller to work?

Dear markpeachey,
If the connected iMON HW can work with only one remote, iMON makes “Remote Controller” selection to be grayed out.
Please let us know FW version, model name and what kind of MS remote you’re using.
You can check FW version in iMON Manager>Options>Version/Update.

Hi Johnny,
The version is 7.63.0831. The remote is an RC6 ir by microsoft (actually Phillips I believe). My system is Vista 32 bit but oem. The supplier claimed that the remote was working when supplied. I foolishly removed imon when I first got the htpc and had to reinstall it. When I received advise from the supplier he claimed that the system would now not work. I can't reinstall Vista as it is oem.
There has to be a way as I am happy with very other respect.

iMon Manager will tell you its firmware version in Option -> Version/Update. This is required as well.

Dear markpeachey,
FW version 0xa0 can work with only MCE remote.
Because of this, “MCE remote” is grayed out and it cannot be changed to other remote.
Please remove iMON HW from PC case and check it again with not mounted on PC Case.
Sometimes this kind of problem can be made while mounting iMON HW to PC case

Hi Johnny,
Do you really think this is the problem? At the risk of offending you it sounds like you are clutching at straws. The VFD works in all other regards and clearly responds to IR as the display says "not defined command" when a button is pressed on the remote. What could possibly be achieved by removing the hardware and reinstalling it. I will only do this as a last resort but am fairly sure this is not the answer.

Dear markpeachey,
Actually we supply iMON HW module to our OEM customers and our customers mount it on their product.
Sometimes IR receiving element can be bent or cut during this mounting process.
It may cause the IR receiving problem.
You may check that the IR element works fine if you open the PC chassis and look into the iMON module in front of the chassis.
The IR element is placed on the right of VFD module.
Did you check that the remote worked fine at first?
Then, and try to change the battery with new one.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for all of your help. It was the remote itself. I got another one and now hey presto.
