View Full Version : Repeated "Enter" key presses with harmony 890

After doing some reading on the forum, I'd say my problem most closely resembles this:
http://htpcinside.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58
I have an Antec Fusion Remote Black case. I am using a Harmony 890 and the Logitech database default codes for this device. It seems to work OK, but after a while of using it, the computer seems to be acting as if it has the "Enter" key pressed down, and it becomes unusable, since the key press pretty much just selects the first option of any menu or screen you bring up. I'm pretty sure this only happens after having used the "Enter" key that is mapped to a key on the Harmony
have there been any reports of similar behaviour with Harmony remotes (ie - the problem could lie with the codes that are being provided by Logitech)? Otherwise, what else can cause this.,.
I've read of problems with electrical shorts, but this is the only seeming problem. Where would I look for shorts if this was the cause? What else can I do?

Hi Adam!
The intresting thing to know before doing anything, which you havent mensioned at all, would be if your iMON PAD you got with your case have the same issue?

I will try that, but it's tough to tell, since it seems to be fairly intermittent. It's not every time I press the button assigned to "Enter", but it seems to happen eventually every time. If the supplied remote works, maybe I can reprogram the Harmony instead of using the database codes.
I was just wondering if anyone has experienced something similar with this case, and/or using a harmony remote with it. Or if there's a known problem with the enter key getting repeated like that.

Yes, this is exactly what i was aiming for.

Not what i know of! Not in the new forum anyway. Maybe you could find something if you search in the old forum.

I will give this a try.. I just really hope it's not a hardware problem, because I'd have no idea how to track that down.
this is going to take me a while.. I won't be in front of the pc for a couple days, but I'll reply to this thread.
Any suggestions from support people?

Well, when troubleshooting you have to start in the right end. Wouldnt worry about any hardware problems in this stage, but if your supplied remote shows the same problem then you could start worry.

Hi,
I have the same problem with the Harmony 785 from Logitech.
I use the Harmony 785 to control Media Portal.
The rate of intermittent depends on the speed parameters of the keyboard in the Imon settings.
I have a Micro Fusion Remote 350 - EC case von Antec.
I use the emulation of the RM200 remote control (Imon-pad). However, I have only the small remote control RM100, so I can not test is not whether the problem also occurs with the RM200.

Hi,
I can reproduce the problem with the remote control RM100. Sometime after pressing the ENTER key on the RM100, MediaPortal jump between 2 menus. This happens even though the remote control is covered, ie it is no IR signal emitted. The speed depends on the speed setting in the IMON Manager.
I Serve MediaPortal with the mouse, the problem does not. When operating the ENTER key, the IMON eye not works. Is that correct?
My PC
Antec Micro Fusion Remote 350, WindowsXP, IMON Manager ver 7.62.0721 (ANTEC), firmware ver 0x380102 IMON LCD HID OEM

Hi,
the problem was with me on even when the Escape key.
I used unnecessary RM200 functions (timer, thumbnail) for ENTER and ESCAPE. In the Imon Manager for Media Portal, I put on these functions and assigned the code for ENTER and ESCAPE.
I assume that there are errors in my firmware these keys. It is not the IMON-operated eye.

Dear AdamS,
Did you try it with supplied remote controller?
For reference, It'd be better that you know how button down/up action works. RM 100/200 remotes and iMON MINI/PAD remotes have the same IR protocol and these remotes generate Key Down signal and Key Up signal separately. In other words, the Key Down IR signal is generated when you press a button on remote. And if you hold down the key, it generates the same Key Down IR signal repeatedly. When you release this button, these remotes generate the Key Up IR signal which is different from the Key Down IR signal of this button. It is almost same as the common keyboards work.
We can think two cases.
1. If Harmony remote can not generate both Key Down and Key Up IR signals but only Key Down can be generated, Windows will think user presses and holds down the Enter key.
2. Though Harmony remote can generate both Key Down and Key Up IR signals, you press the Enter button well directed toward the IR receiver , however, it is not well directed when you release the button and IR receiver missed the Key Up IR signal, the same situation can occur.
And one more thing, some buttons on remote are transferred via HID keyboard driver to Windows OS and the others via HID compliant device driver to iMON Manager Software. For the buttons via HID compliant device driver, iMON Manager Software filter out this issue. However, for the buttons via HID keyboard driver, Windows does not filter out. The Enter. Esc, Backspace, #, * and the numeric buttons on remote are the button via HID keyboard driver.
Please check your problem referring these points.
Thanks and best regards,

Dear Andreas2,
The issue you told seems to be somewhat different with that of AdamS.
As explained in my reply to AdamS, the Enter and Esc buttons are transferred via HID keyboard driver to Windows directly. And it makes iMON Desktop Indicator (iMON operated eye) does not show any information.
And if MediaPortal handles Key Down message instead of Key Up message, two or more time input can occur depend on the keyboard repeat time and delay time setting values.
This is not iMON problem.
Thanks and best regards,
