Hi All,
This is my first post here. I did search the forums for issues relating to my problem before I decided to start a new thread here, but did not find a thread with my exact issues, so here I go...
Graphic Equalizer function refuses to work at all under Windows 7, yet it works fine under XP SP3 for me ( dual-boot ).
My specs:
Thermaltake VFD MediaLab with iMon sw, latest version
X-Fi Xtreme Audio sound card
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit, dual boot with XP Pro SP3
So under XP, the graphic equalizer function works great ( WMP 10 ) , but in Windows 7 with WMP 12 it doesn't work at all.
I tried iMon version 7.78.1125 and also the Beta Update, no difference...same problem.
I boot back into XP and it works fine of course... so it is a problem with WMP 12 ( builtin to W7 of course ) and iMon, at least that is my conclusion at this point.
I tried everything, enabling/disabling every graphic equalizer option there is in the iMon sw, as well as the same settings as the ones that work under XP for me, but no go... tried W7 Compatibility Wizard and all the different OS emulations, no improvement.
Everything else works fine in W7, Frontview works fine, the News feeds display fine, its only the damn graphic equalizer refuses to run... tried different threshold settings, etc etc, no help.
Oh, btw, the graphic equalizer DOES work under iMedian player of course, but I prefer to use WMP 12 for playing back my media... don't want to be forced to use iMedian player all the time...
Has anyone else experienced this problem?? ( no graphic equalizer function in W7 ) ??
I would like to see this fixed in a future release of iMon... thanks in advance!!!
BTW, I should mention that I do like the iMon sw in general, nothing is perfect of course, but in general it works like it should and I enjoy my VFD display and remote control a great deal! :)

I have a similar problem I'm running Vista 64 iMon/iMEDIAN HD version 7.78.1125. When I run Winamp, iMEDIAN HD music or other application that should trigger the equalizer, it does not show any actively, I also notice that the overlay Menu title's that normally show up in the iMon center windows (the same as the Equalizer) is blank. I discovered that if I click on the left top side of the iMon window on my 7" touch screen and then click back on Front view Player I get the Menu and the also the Equalizer start working. Not sure if this will fix your problem but it easy to try. I'm hoping this will be fix in updated versions.

Sorry, don't use Winamp at all.
My problem is with WMP 11 and Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit .... tried clicking on upper left of program window as you suggested, no help though...
Imedian does work fine with the graphic equalizer, but not with WMP 11.. incompatible... I hope you guys can fix it soon..
Thanks for your response though, appreciate the input here!!

Dear All,
When iMEDIAN HD plays media file, iMON receives PCM data to display EQ from iMEDIAN HD. But when other application play music file, iMON should record system sound to get PCM data. Please check again if the current sound output device is set as EQ Source in iMON Manager>iMON Utilities>FrontView>Graphic Equalizer tab.

In order to display EQ for WMP11, you should check “All System Sounds” option. When this option is disabled, iMON tries to record only when Media Center, Winamp or iTunes plays media file.

I am assuming that the EQ does not work with PowerDVD 9.

I am having this problem too, any solution would be greatly appreciated.
I'm finding that the equaliser will work if i set the frontview equaliser device to be either headphones (and I plug headphones into the front jack) or if I set it to be microphone (and I make enough noise to trigger the microphone).
However, it will not work when set to "speakers (high definition audio)", even though in the windows sound output devices window it shows a reading on the sound level meter in exactly the same way.
I'm using a ASUS P6Tse motherboard's onboard audio which is capable of 7.1 surround, could this be related to the problem? (the headphones are obviously only in stereo). I'm only going to be using stereo speakers though, so am considering a work around of just keeping the speakers plugged into the headphone jack. This is not ideal though!
Also, i find that plugging/unplugging the headphones causes the equaliser display to freeze and must be reset using the frontview tab on the imon manager. - Quite annoying!

Hi Johnny , I already did that, no help...
I have to have it checked for it to work in Windows XP ( all system sounds is indeed checked, else the eq does not work for WMP there ). However, when I boot into Windows 7, it does not matter if All System Sounds are checked or not, Windows Media Player 12 cannot get the equalizer working at all....
the current sound output device is set as EQ Source in iMON Manager>iMON Utilities>FrontView>Graphic Equalizer tab.
Yes, already done that, and triple-checked it a few times, no help...
Conclusion:
Incompatibility between WMP 12 , W7, and imon here... I had stated WMP version 11 before incorrectly, it is actually WMP 12 ( comes standard with Windows 7 ) that I am using. Edited my original post to correct this error I made.
Edit: Again, I repeat, Graphic Eq works great in my XP with WMP 10. Cannot get to work in Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit with WMP 12 at all. It DOES work in iMedian player, but I don't want to use that player all the time, prefer to use WMP 12. Please fix, thanks!!

Dear All,
We checked that iMON displays EQ correctly while playing music with WMP 12 in Windows 7 64bit.
Please try to lower “Trigger On Level” option in iMON Manager> iMON Utilities>FrontView>Auto Mode tab and update soundcard driver to the latest version. And check if you can record sound with “Sound Recorder” in start>All Programs>Accessories.

My equalizer stopped working with WMP on Win 7 64-bit. Here's how I fixed it:
1) Right click on speaker icon in task tray.
2) Left click on "Open Volumne Mixer".
3) In the dialog that appears, verify the volumne for "iMon Manager" it turned up and not muted.
4) Equalizer started working again.
Good luck.

Updated Sound driver fixed it - thanks!
Should have thought of that myself...

Tried that, no help... My Creative X-Fi Audio Xtreme PCI card is using the latest correct driver. I can record sound no problem with it.

Thanks for posting your solution. However, for some strange reason, when I open the Volume Mixer, all it shows is "Device - Speakers" on left side, and on right-side of the pop-up window it says "Applications - System Sounds" , that's it!! There is no "Imon Manager" there, although it did appear once there, then disappeared again, dunno why...
Volume is maxed for both items above, nothing is muted... sound plays okay, just the graphic eq refuses to work at all under WMP 12...
I tried adjusting everything you recommended, still no help.
It DOES work fine under iMedian HD player, just tested that again... does still work fine under Windows XP and WMP 11 ... when I try same settings that work in iMon in XP, the eq fails to start in W7 with WMP 12...
I believe you when you say it works on your system, but it does not work on mine no matter what I try...
Well its not the end of the world, I can always use iMedian HD player in W7 to get my eq displaying properly when playing music....just prefer WMP and its plugins ( Whitecap etc. ).
I am guessing something is funky between my X-fi sound card driver and iMon... perhaps a future sound card driver might fix this, dunno...
Thanks all for your help though, appreciate it...

I found the problem! Its the damn sound card driver... my cheap Creative X-Fi Audio Xtreme PCI card.
Just downloaded latest MS driver recommended for my card through Windows Update.
Now when I open "Volume Mixer" ( from the sound icon in my system tray ), I get additional "Applications" showing up there , that never appeared before I updated my sound card driver.
Finally, "iMon Manager" is showing up there , to the right of "Device" and "Applications".
My Device and System Sounds are showing signs of life ( peak sound levels in the vertical bar while I play media back in WMP 12 ) , nothing is muted... however, there is no action at all under the "iMon Manager" , it is not muted, but there is no audio signal under it.. just as if it was muted, but it is not ( double checked ).
Obviously the Creative X-Fi driver is not using same audio stream as Windows System Sounds currently, and thus iMon has no chance to pick up any audio signal and relay it to the graphic equalizer.
As usual, this is a ****ty Creative audio driver problem, once again ( when Windows 7 first launched there was NO working driver of any kind for my PCI card, only one that worked was for the PCI Express version of my card. Creative finally fixed it with a working driver, but now I am getting this stupid driver problem with iMon in Windows 7 now... argh.. almost ready to rip it out and go back to onboard audio that works with everything, but sounds like crap in my games... surround sound-wise that is ....

I'm having exactly the same problem. Graphic EQ working in iMedian HD and not using MC7 (Media Center Windows 7). It "was" working at some point early in my installations, but I think I "may" have been using a different motherboard with different on-board realtek audio at the time. Right now all the drivers are up-to-date with Windows 7 specified drivers.
I do not get an option for the iMon hardware in my sound control panels.

Not using "Media Center" in W7 here either... I am pretty sure it is the Creative X-Fi Xtreme Audio PCI sound card drive at this point, based on what others are reporting ( that it works with latest version of sound card driver for their particular sound card, just not mine... :( )
I am too lazy to yank out my X-Fi card, and enable my onboard RealTek integrated sound chip, which I am quite sure would work just fine with the iMon graphic equalize in W7, but I want to keep using my X-Fi card so the effort to prove this theory is not worth it in the end for me...
I am hoping a future Creative driver for my particular card will finally fix this issue down the road ...
To sum up:
Boot into Windows XP SP3, then graphic equalizer works perfect with WMP 11 and iMon
Boot into Windows 7 Ultimate 64, graphic equalizer refuses to work at all with WMP 12 ( WMP 12 comes standard with W7 ). Only works in iMedian Player in W7, but I prefer WMP 12 with Whitecap visualizations, and that is why I am complaining in the first place.
I know the moderator got it to work with a different sound card ( or onboard sound ) , but that still does not solve my problem. I believe the problem is related to my sound card driver at this point.

Okay, so I upgraded my computer recently and got rid of that cheap Creative X-Fi Xtreme Audio PCI card finally.
Am using onboard Realtek 889 chipset audio, sounds pretty good actually for onboard.
Guess what, as soon as I got rid of that X-Fi card and started using onboard audio with W7, the equalizer immediately starting working again in iMon...
So it was the damn X-Fi PCI ( not PCI Express! ) sound card/driver that was causing the equalizer not to work in iMon all along. Thanks Creative...for your crap W7 driver...
I am never buying another Creative sound card as long as I live...perhaps Asus Xonar or similar, but never Creative...cuz of their drivers...
Just wanted to update this thread and let you all know the problem is finally resolved. :)
