I am thinking of getting myself an external volume control which has that analogue wheel you get from a volume knob and from the looks of it the VFD fits the bill. I have some questions though, as I am not that familiar with the product:

1) Does the Volume control of the VFD work systemwide or just with specific programs? (i.e. can I lower the volume in whatever game I boot up if I want to?)

2) Can the remote be used to enable and disable output to a second display? (in my case I have a TV connected via HDMI, but I usually don't keep the output on since I use the same PC for work too)

That's all I can think of now. Any input is much appreciated.

Dear fushi,

1) Does the Volume control of the VFD work systemwide or just with specific programs? (i.e. can I lower the volume in whatever game I boot up if I want to?) iMON changes systemwide volume and you can select device to control volume.

2) Can the remote be used to enable and disable output to a second display? (in my case I have a TV connected via HDMI, but I usually don't keep the output on since I use the same PC for work too)
iMON doesn’t have this kind of function directly. But you make a batch file or find application to do this function or, iMON can run this batch file or application.

In a way it will. More info on your configuration is needed though. I use the RM200 remote with the Veris Premier and can start Windows Media Center by simply pressing the TV button. To exit WMC, just press the "App Ext" (green button at the top left of the remote). The window program that has the focus will end. The remote also has mouse controls so you could do this manually as well.

WMC will start on whatever display you move the window. It will also start (using the TV button) at whatever point you ended WMC. If you ended it watching TV, it will start up there. I use two displays, one monitor and one TV, but I don't always have WMC on the TV. There are times when I "watch" two programs at the same time. Or record one and watch another. I use WMC on the PC monitor and have satellite on the TV. I also have the TV defined as an extended display on the PC and it's connected via HDMI. All I have to do on the TV to see that desktop is to select the HDMI TV input via it's remote . Up pops the second desktop. I can then move (click and drag) various windows to it including WMC or use it to expand my desktop.

If you mean will the MCE remote control the TV, no it won't. They use different IR signals. Which is good on one side but you need two remotes (or one very expensive programmable remote).
